OrMe – Ortica Memoria

The OrMe – Ortica Memoria association has created Milan’s first open-air museum in the historic Ortica neighborhood. An artistic and multimedia urban regeneration project, which has 20 murals, created by the Orticanoodles collective together with citizens, schools and associations, accompanied by maps, apps, guides and a lively and creative communication activity aimed at letting everyone know the history of Milan and spreading the value of Memory. A museum accessible to all and free of charge.

With the contribution of Fondazione Italia Patria della Bellezza, the OrMe association will strengthen the communication of the project, continue the process of digitization of the works, starting with the renewal of the website, enrich the programming and communication of the activities of the new socio-cultural center SanFasutino5. In addition, in order to better accommodate the increasing number of groups of citizens and tourists visiting the Ortica, the OrMe association will enhance by placing QR Codes on the murals to acquaint them with the individual works and the history of Milan and the 20th century. The funds will also enable the renovation of the Guide on Milan’s first open-air museum created by the OrMe association and the printing of new copies, maps, tours and production of materials for projects with schools.

The OrMe association is also pursuing projects outside of the Ortica through the tool of participatory art, with the aim of creating community moments, engaging, raising awareness and spreading the memory of places in Milan.

“We are excited to be among the winners selected by Fondazione Italia Patria della Bellezza to award projects and activities to enhance the territory. The OrMe – Ortica Memoria association was founded in 2017 to support the urban regeneration project of Ortica, the smallest neighborhood in Milan, through cultural, artistic and social activities, with the involvement of citizens, schools, universities, associations and organizations,” said Serafino Sorace, president of the OrMe – Ortica Memoria association. “Thanks to the invaluable contribution of Fondazione Italia Patria della Bellezza, we want to enhance the communication activities of the new socio-cultural hub SanFaustino5, a meeting point for citizens, artists and volunteers engaged in the enhancement of the area, and of artistic projects to make known the beauty of Ortica, where the OrMe – Ortica Memoria association has created Milan’s first open-air museum with a series of murals that tell the history of Milan and the fundamental value of Memory.”
