For the second consecutive year, Ursula Borroni e Serena Poletto Ghella have chosen to support Fondazione Italia Patria della Bellezza, and chose to adopt La Cartiera di Vas. Ursula has more than 15 years of experience and shares Serena's passion for Product Branding and Creative Direction.
The Vas Paper Mill is one of the most important sites of industrial archaeology in the province of Belluno and a place of national importance in the papermaking history of Italy. Built in 1600 by the Venetian Republic, its name grew during the Republican era and throughout the 18th century thanks to the Remondini family, printers from Bassano. The prestige of the site lasted for more than three centuries, and Vassese paper production spread beyond the Mediterranean borders.
Locally, it became a source of employment until the 1950s. In 2016, the La Charta Social Promotion Association started its non-profit activity by winning the public tender issued by the Quero Vas municipality for the management and valorisation of the public spaces of the former paper mill. Its territorial location makes the paper mill a crossroads between four UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Dolomites, the Monte Grappa Massif, the Prosecco Hills of Valdobbiadene and Venice.
Thanks to its heterogeneous and multidisciplinary team, the Association has succeeded in bringing to life and growing the project to enhance the site, which is currently configured as a cultural centre, an aggregator and catalyst of social activities, a pole of anthropic interpretation and active environmental conservation. It hosts wide-ranging initiatives that touch on different disciplinary fields such as art and business, research and recreation, culture and sociality, crafts and education, nature and industrial heritage.
