Associazione Italiana di Geologia e Turismo
For the 2026 call for proposals, Bell'Italia honors the Italian Association of Geology and Tourism, an organization that promotes understanding of geological heritage as a key to interpreting the landscape through outreach, education, and regional development initiatives. It works to bridge the gap between scientific research and local communities, with the aim of fostering an informed and sustainable appreciation of these places. Geology is thus presented as an element of identity—both cultural and natural.
In the heart of the most secluded part of Valpolicella, Prun is a small village where the landscape clearly expresses its most authentic nature: the meeting of nature and culture. The gentle contours of the terrain and the vernacular architecture arise directly from the local geology, a sequence of subtly layered sedimentary rocks, with hues ranging from ivory white to deep pink.
The Prun Stone thus becomes a language and an identity: every built element reflects a deep understanding of the material, developed over the centuries in harmony with the environment. The tunnel quarries, known locally as Preare and now silent, preserve the traces of this dialogue between man and rock, built on skilled craftsmanship and respect.
This heritage is complemented today by the active role of the local community, a conscious guardian of this balance: the residents continue to care for the area, keeping traditions alive and promoting opportunities for learning and sharing, such as the Tour del Palato, held every year on June 2.
Prun thus becomes an emblematic place, where geology transforms into a lived landscape and cultural heritage, still capable today of inspiring and telling stories.
