BelMondo: The Cuttlefish Revolution
BelMondo is one of the two winners selected by Fondazione Italia Patria della Bellezza for the 2023 cash prize. The project was presented by La Rivoluzione delle Seppie (The Cuttlefish Revolution), a hyper-collective that aims to reactivate areas defined as marginal, and in particular the village of Belmonte Calabro, by experimenting with new models of living and working, using a relational approach involving the local population and new inhabitants arriving from different parts of the world, students and digital nomads in co-living and co-working, for a plural, multi-ethnic and international community.
BelMondo is a hybrid tribe of nomads and locals, a new way of creating community within empty spaces and bringing in sounds and stories. It is the transformation of anonymous spaces into ‘living places’.
The aim of the project's new communication campaign is to stimulate local interest and attract streams of like-minded participants. A communication campaign that not only uses social media, fanzines, videos and interviews, but also makes provocative use of more classic tools, such as posters and publications in local newspapers. A people-specific approach capable of promoting social and territorial integration. Evolving, thus, together with the territory. Talking about villages and not hamlets, talking about communities and not activities.
