Kilowatt Festival 2023
Kilowatt is one of the two projects selected by Fondazione Italia Patria della Bellezza that won the ‘in kind’ prize provided by RobilantAssociati. The international multidisciplinary festival is dedicated to the contemporary scene (theatre, dance, circus, music, visual arts, multimedia) and takes place annually in July between Sansepolcro and Cortona (Tuscany). The festival was conceived in 2003 and has been promoted and realised by the CapoTrave theatre production company ever since. Every year the festival involves 5,000 paying spectators and records 10,000 admissions to free events.
Kilowatt has established itself as one of the most significant national and international events in the sector, known at European level for the quality of its artistic choices and for the innovative Visionaries format thanks to which a group of 50 non-professional citizens, after a 7-month-long comparison process, select 9 of the 60 shows presented at the festival each year.
Kilowatt Festival won the 2021 Critics' Award from the National Association of Theatre Critics ANCT, the 2010 Ubu Award as best Special Project and, in 2021, its directors Lucia Franchi and Luca Ricci won the Ubu Award for best curatorial/organisational project.
The Associazione CapoTrave / Kilowatt manages the Teatro alla Misericordia in Sansepolcro and the Teatro Mario Spina in Castiglion Fiorentino (Ar), places for creative artist residencies where innovative forms of contemporary creation are supported, i.e. theatre, dance and performing arts productions.
