Lonely Planet Special Award: The voices of geologists tell the story of Il Bel Paese

WINNERS
/ 2023

For 2023 our media partner Lonely Planet Magazine Italia  has decided to extend its support for the Fondazione Italia Patria della Bellezza by awarding a special mention to one of the projects nominated in our call for proposals. The selected initiative is ‘The voices of geologists tell the story of THE BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY’ conceived by the Associazione Italiana di Geologia e Turismo.

The year 2024 will mark 200 years since the birth of Antonio Stoppani. A great popularizer of science who was able to recount the natural beauty of a newly united Italy in a passionate journey, revealing geological landscapes made of mountains, glaciers, caves, volcanoes, lakes, and seas through his publication of ‘Il Bel Paese’.

On the occasion of this anniversary, the Italian Association of Geology and Tourism has devised a project aimed at the diffusion of a dedicated podcast and a publication to retrace the famous text, interweaving Stoppani's words with the voice of today's geologists, to discover the uniqueness of Italy's geological and landscape heritage.
