TAM: Tower Art Museum

TAM Tower Art Museum is a contemporary art museum officially open in Matera from 01 December 2022. The path that led to its opening was recounted in the project ‘I just wanted to open a museum’ which, through a youtube blog and an instagram page, tried to recount the difficulties of doing cultural business in Italy.

The need for the museum was related to positioning in the start-up phase of cultural activities, in a very competitive sector with significant barriers to entry. Lack of budget is often a deterrent to delving into fundamental aspects such as graphic design, strategic communication planning and targeted outings in contexts to which to tell the long and troubled story of opening a contemporary art museum (almost) from scratch.

TAM is not born from a permanent collection but produces and hosts two exhibitions a year with national and international artists. The museum's objective is to produce new cultural content in Matera to reaffirm the need to continue living and making these places attractive. The museum, born from the bottom up, wants to become a reference point for the area and for those who spend time in the city as regards the study of the contemporary and what is happening around us.

With the contribution obtained, it was possible to take the final step in the production of the first exhibition produced by TAM, entitled ‘Ultadizione’ and involving Canemorto, MOMO, Studio Antani, Ultravioletto + Dottor Pira, giving it a graphic and communicative identity that laid a lasting foundation for the social and cultural action that the museum wants to put in place.
