San Vittore delle Chiuse

ArtStory, Trails
It is a religious complex built by the Lombards in the 11th century, but the complex abbey of San Vittore delle Chiuse was built around the church and dates back to the 14th century. It is part of the extensive network of Benedictine places in central Italy. It is located a stone's throw from Valadier's small masterpiece in the Frasassi Cave. A masterpiece of Romanesque art, the structure inside is bare and austere in its simple elegance. Near the left door, next to the altar, stands one of the oldest known drawings representing the symbol of infinity. A minor mystery for today's archaeologists. Having fallen into disuse and long used as a barn, it has been restored since 1830.
