The Miramare Castle

Atlas of Beauty /
ArtStory, Trails
The castle of Miramare was the residence of Maximilian of Habsburg, the ill-fated emperor of Mexico. It stands boldly overlooking the sea, with its white stone and eclectic style, and enjoys an enchanting panoramic position on the Grignano promontory a few kilometres from Trieste. Today it is a historical museum that recounts the life and elegance of the late 19th century, with the bright reds of its tapestries and numerous symbols of imperial power. A special mention must go to the gardens, more than 22 hectares, with rare plants and sculptures, also created, like the castle, by the Viennese architect Carl Junker.
