U CINEMITTU
U CINEMITTU is a small community cinema founded in 2024 in Longone Sabino, in the province of Rieti, with just 12 seats: an intimate, unconventional venue that aims to bring cinema back to the heart of village life and its community. Conceived by actor Luca Marinelli together with members of the Biblioteca Verde association, the project began as a concrete gesture of care for the local area and its community.
Housed in a space provided free of charge by Mrs. Vera, who runs the last remaining business still open in the town, U CINEMITTU is a model of collective participation: from the furnishings salvaged and restored through collaboration with local organizations, to the day-to-day management handled by volunteers and residents of Longone Sabino. Free admission and support through donations ensure that the cinema remains accessible to everyone.
The program alternates between arthouse films, great classics of Italian cinema, screenings for children, and environmental documentaries attended by the directors. A devoted community has grown up around the screenings, centered on gatherings, conversations, and moments of fellowship. More than just a movie theater, U CINEMITTU has become a cultural hub capable of revitalizing a place and strengthening a community’s sense of belonging.
