Contemporary art en plein air

Breathing in contemporary art at the top of your lungs

Arte Sella
An open-air art installation project
Arte Sella was born in an experimental form in 1986, when a group of friends living in Borgo Valsugana met in Val di Sella, in the garden of Villa Strobele, to imagine combining contemporary art and nature.
It is a programme composed of educational initiatives to foster and support learning for the future. A unique creative process between different artistic languages, sensitivities and inspirations through a dialogue between creativity and the natural world.

Horti, Collegio Borromeo
A place where art, nature and ethics meet
Horti is a 35,000 square metre park that the Almo Collegio Borromeo of Pavia has redeveloped as a public space where natural habitat, contemporary art and social inclusion intertwine. This area, once dedicated to cultivation for the Collegio's students, is now a place for sociality, creativity and the interweaving of knowledge.

The Peccioli landfill
The open-air museum in the Peccioli landfill
The Peccioli landfill handles more than 1,000 tonnes of waste every day, mainly from Pisa, Lucca, Massa and Livorno, but often also from the rest of Tuscany. The plant, managed by the company Belvedere Spa, uses its revenues to finance artistic projects, such as shows, concerts, congresses, as well as the realisation of 2 amphitheatres and the artwork ‘I giganti’; an open-air museum is thus created in the landfill of a small Tuscan village.

Biennale Gherdëina is a contemporary art festival in Val Gardena, based on the exchange between people, plants, minerals, stories, languages and traditions. Nature and local culture meet the international art community to imagine and build a sustainable future.

Festival del Paesaggio di Capri
An initiative in the name of aestheticism and nature
Every September, the historic centre of Capri and Villa San Michele host the Festival del Paesaggio. The programme is inspired by the artistic climate that was created on Capri in the late 19th and early 20th century and includes site-specific installations, public art interventions and artistic residencies. Through the cult of beauty, aestheticism and nature, the programme draws on the ‘dandy’ style that characterised the island last century.

Barch Art
Artistic renovation of rural artefacts
Barch Art aims at the artistic renovation of rural artefacts related to haymaking (barch) in the plain of Fonzaso (BL) emphasising their historical roots, histories and biographies of the owners.
The creation of a pedestrian-cycling route will emphasise the artistic itinerary by enhancing the community, accommodation and commercial activities, and building a network of links with nearby land art realities such as Arte Sella. The Barch become the visual goal of an artistic composition that will be executed along the observation axis between the cycle-pedestrian road and the traditional agricultural artefact, transforming the landscape into a land art installation.
The artist poet ivan (Ivan Tresoldi), through the technique of anamorphosis, will transform the Barch into artistic installations, inspired by the power of collective memory and the comparison with the people of Fonzaso thanks to the documentation collected by Dr Daniela Perco (anthropologist).

Barch Art is a land art project that reinterprets old agricultural artefacts into artistic works. The project involved the entire territory in a participatory process, and today returns a 2.5 km path to the citizenship.
