Mu-CH Museo della Chimica
The MU-CH - Museo della Chimica (Museum of Chemistry)t i is the first museum in Europe to offer an interactive route entirely dedicated to chemistry. Is located in Settimo Torinese, in what was once the Siva paint factory where Primo Levi, writer and chemist, worked for over thirty years. The museum is designed to explore the world of science in an engaging and immersive way, encouraging young and old to experiment with their own hands.
During its last year of activity, the Museum has achieved a fundamental goal: to bring chemistry and STEM subjects outside its walls and become a cultural hub of all-round science dissemination that is increasingly accessible, immersive and interactive.
A total of 11,000 students were involved: almost 9,000 took part in activities at the Museum, for a total of over 1,300 hours of activities delivered, while a further 2,240 were reached directly in schools in the Piedmont region. In parallel, the Museum trained 250 teachers through courses based on interactive teaching methodologies.
The MU-CH is not limited to what happens within its walls. It is a reality on the move, capable of going out and creating connections. The museum has participated in events such as the Grrreen Festival at ZOOM Turin and the International Book Fair, reaching more than 7,000 people with activities and experiences designed to bring chemistry to where you least expect it. In parallel, it activated new collaborations with the world of research and enterprise, including one with Olon S.p.A., the Next Land project and other companies in the area.
Another important initiative was the collaboration in the realisation of the exhibition 'Time Machines. The Journey into the Universe Begins with You', for which the MU-CH curated and managed the didactics for schools and cultural mediation. The exhibition, which reached over 28,000 visitors and 3,000 students, was conceived by the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF), realised by the OGR Turin and designed by Pleiadi, with the contribution of the INAF-Osservatorio Astrofisico di Torino, Infini.to Planetario di Torino and the MU-CH.
The MU-CH's journey does not stop here: new educational projects, changing spaces and activities in the area are already in the pipeline. The museum's goal is to become a cultural engine, meeting place and reference point for the dissemination of science on a local and national level.
