Museo Gypsotheca Antonio Canova
The small town of Possagno, at the bottom of the Grappa massif, enjoys international fame for being the birthplace of the great artist Antonio Canova and because it preserves an art collection of fundamental importance, as well as being a cultural reference point for the entire surrounding area, the Museo Gypsotheca Antonio Canova.
The Gypsotheca is the complete collection of the original models, created by Canova himself in his Roman atelier to enable his workshop to replicate them in marble. The extraordinary collection of models is housed in the Francesco Lazzari Basilica and in the famous pavilion designed by Carlo Scarpa (1957) and allows not only to admire a series of absolute masterpieces but also to understand the rich and complex itinerary of Canova's invention and his frequentations. In addition to the Gypsotheca, it is also possible to visit the house where Canova was born in 1757 and where one can still admire the original furnishings, work tools, gala dresses and books that were his artistic inspiration.
Our Foundation financed the communication and rebranding project, which includes the creation of a new website with an integrated audio guide and virtual tour, as well as a refurbishment of the internal captions.
