A scholarship for Matteo, apprentice master luthier

Our Foundation strongly supports the work of craftsmen, the great excellence of our country, and has been a partner of the Fondazione Cologni for years, also sponsoring the MAM prize, the special award dedicated to Italian Masters of Art.

As ambassadors of the project ‘Una Scuola, un Lavoro. Percorsi d’Eccellenza' (One School, One Job. Paths of Excellence) project, each year we support and promote a master craftsman selected from among the most deserving and talented in Italy. Through the programme we are supporting Matteo Fontana, 24 years old. Admitted to the Civica Scuola di Liuteria in Milan, he specialised in the construction of plucked musical instruments. Since January, he has been doing his apprenticeship at Liuteria Cocopelli, under the guidance of master luthier Simone Assunto, who will follow Matteo's training step by step. During his apprenticeship, the young luthier will be involved in the construction and repair of acoustic and electric instruments: assembly, painting, finishing and set-up. Zero-impact materials and European woods will be used for these guitars and basses, avoiding the use of exotic materials to minimise the impact on the environment. We are proud to be able to support Matteo, who, through his talent and passion will be an ambassador of the Italian beauty of know-how.
