Post Disaster Rooftops
It is a collective of designers, thinkers and artists, set in Taranto. The initiative proposes a series of collective performances that, starting from the idea of ‘disaster’ - misalignment from the stars - initiate the research process for an alternative future.
In 2022, after joining our Foundation's call for proposals, the Post Disaster Rooftops project was selected for the in kind award promoted by RobilantAssociati. The objective of the agency's work was to support an ambitious and conceptual project while respecting its nature, content and visual style. In the narrative, the involvement of the city of Taranto was also to emerge, from a simple theatre to the leading actor in the performance.
Rooftops are places that elude most normative definitions of urban space, they have a freedom of action and speculation that allows alternative futures to be imagined through continuous shifts of gaze between the real and the possible. The roofs and their condition of suspension are therefore the perfect place for a generative project narrative. The RobilantAssociati team flew from Milan to Taranto for Post Disaster Rooftops EP03.
RobilantAssociati chose to make a video for Post Disaster Rooftops that was not the story of the result but that of the road travelled to get there.
A video that would tell the genesis, the vision of the collective and its unusual, overturned point of view, on and from the rooftops of the city. The choice was to document with footage and a photographic reportage what was happening, without limiting itself to what was unequivocally part of the performance, but also trying to recount what was happening around and which suddenly became part of a whole.
The material produced then went on to enrich the website, curated in turn by RobilantAssociati, generating a new way of using it as an artistic archive and an in-depth analysis of past, future and newly realised ‘episodes’. This latest operation allowed the collective to be selected by the curators of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023, Fosbury Architecture, for the Italian Pavilion.
