The Associazione Nazionale Subvedenti

The Associazione Nazionale Subvedenti (National Association for the Visually Impaired) was founded with the goal of promoting the independence, inclusion, and participation of people with visual impairments, contributing to the creation of a more accessible society that is attentive to the different ways in which people perceive and experience reality. Through awareness-raising activities, research, and collaboration with public and private institutions, the association works to break down the barriers that limit access to culture, information, and social life.

Throughout its history, it has developed tools and methodologies designed to improve the relationship between people with visual impairments and cultural heritage. Among these, DescriVedendo stands out—a method based on the verbal description of images that transforms works of art, environments, and visual content into accessible experiences through precise, shared language. The project exemplifies the association’s commitment to promoting new models of accessibility that enhance cultural heritage as a common good.
