Cumiana Outdoor

Less than an hour from Turin, between the Pinerolo plain and the foothills of the Cottian Alps, lies a region that seems to encompass many different landscapes. Cumiana stretches from the forests and mountains of Freidour and Tre Denti to the countryside of the plain, crisscrossed by trails, small roads, and a dense network of villages and hamlets. It is precisely these hamlets—nearly ninety, according to local lore—that preserve a precious part of the town’s history: narrow alleys, chapels, stone houses, and ancient customs that bear witness to a way of life in the mountains that is increasingly rare today.

Cumiana’s landscape bears traces of very different eras: rock carvings, Celtic and Lombard artifacts, Savoyard castles, sites of the Resistance, and ancient crafts intertwine with a natural environment that remains surprisingly intact. In the Monte Tre Denti-Freidour Natural Park, just a few kilometers from the city, forests, cliffs, and trails climb up to the mid-mountain peaks; further down, cycling, climbing, and hiking routes allow visitors to explore the area at their own pace.

Bringing all this richness together is Cumiana Outdoor, an initiative born from the desire of local residents, associations, businesses, and professionals to give a voice to a heritage that remains largely unknown. The project brings together those who live in and know the area, so that the communities themselves can tell its stories and preserve its memory. The result is a vision of slow, sustainable tourism, where discovering Cumiana also means connecting with its people, its roots, and its landscapes, restoring value to a beauty that has remained in the shadows for far too long.
