The non-profit association Il Cielo Itinerante aims to bring children in situations of social hardship and educational poverty closer to studying STEAM subjects. Our country ranks last in Europe in science tests, together with Slovakia and Greece, with one of the biggest drops in recent years among OECD countries. The Cielo Itinerante recognises the alarming shortage of science skills and promotes the benefits of mathematics: from cognitive and metacognitive development to unlimited practical applications in everyday life, this subject stimulates creativity and critical thinking, essential skills in today's world. Operating in the areas identified through the results of the Invalsi Tests, the selected project organises astronomical observations and interactive workshops with science lecturers. Exposing children to space gives them the opportunity to take an interest in scientific subjects, while encouraging a projection of themselves beyond their socio-economic background. Italia Brilla-Costellazione 2022 allowed 2000 children in 60 Italian cities to participate in interactive workshops and observations of the sky.
