Maker Mile
In the heart of Venice, Maker Mile tells the story of the city through the artisan trades that have shaped its identity over time. Created with the goal of researching, preserving, and promoting local workshops and traditional skills, the project brings together artisans, designers, professionals, and the younger generation, fostering a dialogue between tradition and the contemporary world.
The Maker Mile network brings together artisanal businesses selected for the quality of their work, their attention to materials and details, the use of authentically local processes, and their ability to keep alive a body of knowledge made up of gestures, techniques, and expertise. Photography, video, and storytelling become tools for documenting this heritage and showcasing not only the objects but also the people and stories behind each piece.
Through exhibitions, meetings, workshops, and studio visits, Maker Mile invites visitors to discover a Venice different from the one most people know: a city made up of workshops, skilled hands, and unique creations, where tradition is not a relic of the past but a practice still capable of evolving. Its work thus helps strengthen the bond between culture, community, and the local economy, bringing the value of craftsmanship and mindful production back to the forefront.
An authentic and creative Venice, to be explored by following in the footsteps of those who continue to shape it today, one craft at a time.
