Museo Gypsotheca Canova
‘The Antonio Canova Gypsotheca Museum in Possagno is the place that preserves the historical and artistic legacy of Antonio Canova, the greatest sculptor of the Neoclassical period.
The museum complex, one of the first in the Veneto region, is composed of the Birth House and the Gypsotheca, located in the original basilica and extension designed by Carlo Scarpa, which houses the original plaster models from which the marbles that today can be found in the world's most important museums were translated. The Casa natale houses the artist's paintings, drawings, engravings and personal effects.
In addition to the Birth House and the Gypsotheca, the museum complex consists of the Gemin Wing, the library, the garden and the brolo. The museum offers visitors numerous experiences: from guided tours and educational workshops to night-time candlelight tours.
