Nuovi Mondi Festival

Founded in the small Alpine village of Valloriate, in the province of Cuneo, Nuovi Mondi Festival is a cultural project that has been exploring contemporary mountain life through film, dialogue, and community engagement for over fifteen years. Conceived and promoted by the association Kosmoki ETS, the festival began as the world’s smallest mountain film festival, transforming a village of just eighty residents into an international gathering place dedicated to the environment, communities, and the future of inland areas.

Over time, the festival has grown to become the heart of a broader cultural district in the lower Valle Stura, involving local governments, associations, citizens, and local organizations in an effort to promote the region through culture. Documentaries from around the world, discussions with Italian and international guests, workshops, and opportunities for dialogue offer a narrative of the mountains that breaks free from stereotypes, capable of illustrating their transformations, opportunities, and new ways of living.

As part of the International Alliance for Mountain Film circuit, the Nuovi Mondi Festival promotes a vision of culture as a driving force for regional regeneration. Since 2025, the project has found a permanent home in a former bocce club returned to the community, transformed into a space dedicated to cultural, educational, and social activities throughout the year, thereby strengthening the bond between the festival and the region that hosts it.

Through film and the arts, the Nuovi Mondi Festival demonstrates how even small villages can become hubs of cultural production, innovation, and international exchange, helping to build new perspectives for life in mountain areas and for the future of the communities that live there.
