The Arconati Villa in Bollate
Popularly known as 'il Castellazzo', Villa Arconati is one of the most beautiful villas of delight in the Groane Park and has the size and splendour of a royal palace. It is an example of Lombard Baroque style and was built by Galeazzo Arconati Visconti as a country residence and a place to house his large collection of works of art. It is a harmonious construction with a surface area of 10,000 square metres and a total of 365 windows. Its park covers 12 hectares of land. Galeazzo, a great collector, bought no less than twelve plates of Leonardo da Vinci's Atlantic Codex, and the villa is enriched with his treasures: a grandiose copy of the Laocoon, a colossal Roman statue of Tiberius from the first century A.D. that was long believed to be the statue of Pompey under which Caesar was assassinated, and a special room dedicated to Hunting (open in 2019) decorated with fine stuccoes and containing large hunting scenes painted by Angelo Maria Crivelli.
