The enchanted castle in Sciacca

Atlas of Beauty /
ArtInstitution, Restoration
There are three thousand heads carved into the rock in a primitive style, often piled on top of each other, among branches and tree trunks in a large open-air museum with a beautiful view of the Gulf of Sciacca. A bulimic work by Filippo Bentivegna, created over the course of a lifetime to the total incomprehension of his fellow citizens. It was a collaborator of Jan Debuffet, French artist and Art Brut theorist, who discovered it in 1968 and recognised the artistic value of this huge work.
