The Tactile Museum Varese
The Museo Tattile Varese, conceived and managed by the Associazione Controluce ODV, was founded with the goal of making architecture and archaeological heritage accessible to people with visual impairments, promoting a different way of experiencing and interpreting cultural heritage. Through the tactile exploration of three-dimensional models, the museum offers an inclusive visitor experience that places the sense of touch at the center of discovery.
For over fifteen years, the museum has been developing programs dedicated to the study of art, architecture, and history, demonstrating how tools designed to ensure accessibility can enhance all visitors’ understanding of cultural heritage. Simplified language, cultural mediation, and multisensory engagement thus become tools for inclusion and, at the same time, opportunities to deepen appreciation of the value of the monuments and sites represented.
The Controluce Association complements its museum activities with an ongoing commitment to designing tactile models and accessible exhibits for other museums and cultural institutions, helping to foster a culture of accessibility as a fundamental element of heritage preservation. Through collaboration with public agencies and cultural organizations, it promotes a vision of beauty that can truly be shared and is open to everyone.
