The street wood worker
Broken wood that becomes art. In the Piazza delle Finanze in Rome, there was a very old stump of wood, the large laurel remnant, which was unfortunately shabby and cut down. Andrea Gandini transformed it into a lion. On the streets of Rome, there are more than sixty faces and works made on dead and still-rooted wood, an ancient art form (carving) that is combined with street art. For years, ever since he discovered this vocation, Gandini has been going around Italian cities and private gardens and transforming tree stumps, fallen trunks, shapeless remains, into works of art. When he works in the streets, he often shows children how it is done. He says: my works are part of the community, people know that what I create is made to dialogue with them.
