The vegetal gaze of Giuseppe Penone
Giuseppe Penone is an artist of extraordinary interest in the Italian cultural scene. His gaze starts far back from the Greek culture of which we are largely made, which in the form of a column, in wood or stone, 'read' the human figure, a reflection that continues intact in the Italian Renaissance to arrive at Leonardo, who takes it up in his anatomical practice, stating that "the core is the kernel that generates the tree of veins ...".
Penone has an exact idea of the gaze that moves at the speed of light, and he investigates, plumbs the themes and problems of the world to which he belongs, a quest without which there would be no growth. There is in him an association between light, nature and the human gaze. More than thirty of his works can be seen at the Galleria Borghese, works in which the last master of "arte povera" weaves a dialogue between nature and history, past and present, demonstrating the constant newness, the dense interweaving that he weaves with contemporary themes and the wonder of sculpted art. The exhibition is called: Universal Gestures.
