The Via degli Dei
Walking between nature and history. Walks are an extraordinary source of sustainable wellbeing for small villages that don't want to die and in Italy there is a real boom in the number of trails. To truly function they must offer adequate services to walkers, from the first to the last stage. In Italy there is one route that works very well, to the point of becoming an example for all to follow: the Via degli Dei, so called because of the impressive number of sacred places it crosses. It is a route that follows the Flaminia minor and, in five stages, crosses the Apennines, 130 kilometres, between medieval Bologna and Renaissance Florence. In 1979, the Roman remains of this route were rediscovered and the CAI organised the walk. A project that is bringing young people back to the villages, creating an economy, new job opportunities and allowing Italians and foreigners to discover nature, history and art in a unique sequence.
