Vajont, a new space in Casso

Atlas of Beauty /
ArtInstitution, Trails
A leap into the void. The former primary schools in the hamlet of Casso was closed in 1963 following the damage caused by the Vajont torrent flood, which was caused by a landslide on Mount Toc and involved the villages of Erto and Casso, close to the shore of the lake, and then, with the overflow of the dam, the towns of the Veneto valley bottom, costing the lives of 1,910 people. The building was restored by architect Valentino Stella and has been transformed by Dolomiti Contemporanee into an experimental centre for contemporary mountain culture, which acts as a cultural driver in the Vajont area through the visual arts, actively regenerating and renewing the place and its culture.
