Carcano: a theatre and its neighbourhood
Porta Romana Bella. The Teatro Carcano is one of the largest theatres in the city, protagonist of two centuries of history. The insurrection against the Austrians was planned in its redoubts, while the greatest names in prose and opera took to its stage. After the sad days of the pandemic, the Carcano wants to valorise the potential of an area of the city centre that, unlike many others that have fallen victim to a progressive housing 'emptying', has tenaciously maintained the typical peculiarities of the neighbourhood (sharing of intentions, community spirit). By ancient tradition, the theatre is the neighbourhood's permanent beating heart.
The first chapter of this work is: Dentro al Carcano, in pè! An itinerant tour with a show that takes spectators, in small groups, inside places usually hidden from their eyes, with actors telling the big and small stories that have the theatre as their protagonist.
