Chris Bangle's Big Bench
Chris Bangle, the great American designer who decided to grow old in the province of Cuneo together with his wife Catherine, conceived the Big Benches in 2010. These are giant, colourful benches, initially positioned in a scenic spot he owns, but made accessible to visitors. Bangle's intention is to convey a message of community and sharing. The pleasure of relaxing and enjoying the view, on a distinctly oversized bench, is an experience to be shared with others, it is like becoming a child again. Now a symbolic attraction of the Langhe, the BIG BENCH COMMUNITY PROJECT (BBCP) Foundation was created to promote the installation of the oversized object and at the same time help support local communities, tourism and the excellent craftsmanship of the villages where they are placed. There are currently 305 benches around the world. The design of the Big Benches, which is protected by copyright, is granted free of charge for the creation of a giant bench on condition that all the elements that characterise Bangle's vision are respected.
