GECT GO

The GECT GO —European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation—was established to strengthen collaboration among the municipalities of Gorizia, Nova Gorica, and Šempeter-Vrtojba, transforming the border between Italy and Slovenia into a space for dialogue, shared planning, and cultural development. As the only entity of its kind in Europe, the EGTC promotes a vision for the region based on cross-border cooperation, fostering initiatives that highlight the historical, cultural, and landscape heritage that unites the two communities.

One of the most significant expressions of its commitment has been the GO! 2025 Nova Gorica–Gorizia European Capital of Culture initiative, the first cross-border European Capital of Culture. Through collaborative planning among institutions, cultural operators, and citizens of both countries, the EGTC helps build an innovative model of cultural governance, in which the border becomes an opportunity for encounter, experimentation, and shared growth.

Among the tools developed to support this initiative is Borderless Wireless, a digital platform that integrates cultural information, services, and content dedicated to the region into a single, accessible, multilingual environment. Designed to offer a unified experience to citizens and visitors—and intended to continue beyond 2025—the platform serves as a shared infrastructure supporting cultural enhancement, tourism promotion, and the strategic development of the cross-border area.

Through culture as a tool for cooperation, the GO EGTC helps build a shared identity that transcends administrative boundaries, promoting a European model based on dialogue, participation, and the enhancement of shared heritage.
