Museo Civico di Castelbuono
The Museo Civico di Castelbuono is a municipal institution dedicated to the preservation, enhancement, and promotion of the region’s historical, artistic, and cultural heritage. Housed within the Ventimiglia Castle—a symbol of the community’s history—the museum combines the preservation of its collections with extensive research, experimentation, and cultural production, establishing itself as one of the leading centers for contemporary art in Southern Italy.
The museum’s collections range from archaeology to sacred art, and on to modern and contemporary art, and are complemented by a rich program of exhibitions, educational activities, and participatory projects involving citizens, schools, artists, and institutions. Through an inclusive and interdisciplinary approach, the Civic Museum promotes cultural heritage as a tool for knowledge, collective growth, and regional development.
Among the most representative initiatives of its innovative journey is the “Abbecedario Civico,” a digital narrative platform that weaves together the museum’s works, places, people, and memories through multimedia content accessible both online and within the exhibition spaces. The project reflects the museum’s vision as an open, participatory, and constantly evolving space, capable of forging new connections between cultural heritage and the community.
