The Omero: the museum of tactile art
Touch and feel art. In the large spaces of the former lazaret (the Mole Vanvitelliana) there is a small hidden gem of Italian culture, one of the few museums in the world of tactile art for the blind or visually impaired. Completely renovated, also through the refitting of part of the existing furnishings, the exhibition part is now organised in sections: works from all eras can be admired, both historical architecture and reproductions of sculpture. The museum now has a new space dedicated to contemporary art and, opening in 2021, a new section on design. The museum organises guided tours with a walk assistant, a mobile guide who constantly follows the visitor, and workshops and laboratories on current exhibitions. Like all ‘extreme’ experiences, touching the works is of great interest and develops amazement in visitors who can also see them with their eyes.
