Palazzo Ducale in Colorno
The Ducal Palace, summer residence of Maria Luigia of Austria, Duchess of Parma, wife of Napoleon, is known as the little Versailles. At the time of the Farnese family, Louise Elizabeth, daughter of Louis XV, had French craftsmen and architects work on the renovation of the palace in memory of her childhood. The palace developed into a complex architectural structure with 400 rooms, and courtyards which are bordered by the Parma stream. In the past it was also an asylum and came to house more than a thousand patients. After several restoration campaigns, today the Reggia is used for musical events and art exhibitions. In addition, the ancient spaces once dedicated to kitchens house ALMA, the International School of Italian Cuisine.
