Palazzo Te in Mantova
Palazzo Te is a Renaissance villa built between 1524 and 1535 on the commission of the Marquis of Federico Gonzaga. It is perhaps Giulio Romano's most famous work. It takes its name from a small island between the lakes, the tejeto, which perhaps named a linden forest, and was for a long time a place of leisure for the Gonzaga family, as well as a place for breeding and training their beloved horses. On the occasion of Charles V's visit in 1530, Giulio Romano enlarged, renovated, painted, making the palace the marvel we admire today. Nowadays, it is the venue for summer shows and major art exhibitions.
