San Lorenzo in Venice: Ocean Space

Atlas of Beauty /
ArtEvent, Story

The church of San Lorenzo is a religious building in the city, in the Castello sestiere. It was part, together with the chapel of San Sebastiano, of the Benedictine women's monastery of the same name. Legend has it that it was Marco Polo's last resting place. The church, inaccessible for more than a hundred years, has reopened its doors overlooking the field of the same name and, after more than two years of conservation and renovation, has begun a second life. Through contemporary art events, the new cultural space Ocean Space, reintegrates the beautiful campo that the church overlooks, into the cultural fabric of the city.
