The Museum of amousment rides
The dream factory. We must acknowledge that, as Italians, we are masters in the art of rides and lights. Worthy heirs of the great machines of the Renaissance festivals, we have taken our attractions to the four corners of the world: from Coney Island to Tivoli to Eurodisney. Italy's largest merry-go-round factory is the Zamperla Group of Vicenza, founded in 1966 by the tenacious and creative work of Alberto, a former circus performer and cinema enthusiast. In the upper Polesine there are more than seventy companies working on the travelling show: carpenters, joiners, fibreglass experts and oil-hydraulic systems. Bergantino is one of the towns along the Po where, in the 1950s, two bicycle mechanics invented the first bumper cars. Palazzo Strozzi, an ancient residence dating back to the 1700s, is home to this museum, unique in Italy, which recounts a world of machines and magical illusions ranging from the first village fairs to modern technological funfairs.
