The Oratory of San Pellegrino

Atlas of Beauty /
ArtStory, Trails
Nestled on the impervious hills of Abruzzo, the small village of Bominaco (50 inhabitants) preserves a treasure of impressive beauty: the Oratory of San Pellegrino. Built near the church of Santa Maria Assunta, it is a small room of twenty metres but contains a cycle of paintings from the 13th century worthy of a large town. The walls and vaults are completely frescoed with episodes from the life of Christ and stories from the life of San Pellegrino. Three master painters worked on the cycle, harmonising their work in language and style. The oratory is a small stone casket with a priceless treasure. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
