The Venaria Reale
It is the most important palace in the circuit of the Savoy residences listed by Unesco (1997) as a World Heritage Site. After a long construction phase, it was Filippo Juvara who gave the final meaning to the design of the villa, which was completed at his death by Benedetto Alfieri. After years of neglect, the Reggia di Venaria was revived in 1961 on the occasion of the celebrations for the centenary of the Unification of Italy. The restoration is unanimously considered one of the largest restoration projects carried out in Europe. The work, which involved the palace, the village, the gardens and the stables, employed 700 technicians and craftsmen and 300 companies. Today, the Venaria Reale is the venue for exhibitions and shows, and its halls and decorations have returned to their original splendour. In 2017, an exhibition entitled 'At the Palaces of Italy' was held, dedicated to the treasures and symbols of Italian royalty, treasures from the dozens of palaces (from the Quirinale to Capodimonte) that our country has seen built throughout its history.
