The villa Reale di Monza
The villa in Monza was built in a short period of time, from 1777 to 1780, by Piermarini as a summer residence for Ferdinand of Habsburg, the son of Maria Theresa of Austria and the governor of Lombardy. The best craftsmen in the area worked on its construction and furnishings, including the Maggiolini family, whose shop worked on the flooring, decorations and furniture. The villa became Royal when the Savoy family took possession of it and was the venue for the first exhibitions of Italian design, the Monza Biennials from 1923 to 1927, marking the beginning of the promotion of arts and crafts that would later be passed on to the Milan Triennale.
