Villa Balbianello is located on the tip of a wooded peninsula overlooking Lake Como. It is an elegant and romantic residence set in a sumptuous garden, built in 1787 at the behest of Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini. It was for many decades the centre of Milanese culture (it hosted Parini, Berchet and Manzoni on several occasions) and was later acquired by Guido Monzino, an explorer by passion. Monzino filled it with his treasures and when he died he donated it to the FAI organization. The villa has been an excellent set for many film productions, but it is made immortal in the world's imagination by George Lucas' second episode of Star Wars (Attack of the Clones) because it is there in one of its gazebos overlooking the lake, set on the fantastic planet of Naboo, that the secret wedding between Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidale takes place.
