Circonauta Festival
Born in 2015 from the idea of two street artists and a cultural operator, Circonauta – Festival Internazionale del Circo Contemporaneo is an event that brings the best examples of street circus to the historic centre of Nardò in Salento. Among the alleys and squares of the Ionian town, against the backdrop of splendid Baroque architecture, the festival offers three days of street performances. The Circonauta Festival is now a project that wants to encourage the dissemination of circus arts, theatre, dance and street music, wants to enhance the territory and its historic centres, wants to facilitate human relations, the art of smiling. The visual identity of the open-air festival is characterised, each year, by a different colour and was born from the dream of a group of friends who, inspired by their love for the territory and for the culture of street art and circus, decided to create an event that could serve as a flywheel for the growth of a community and the enhancement of the territory towards a 'deseasonalised' cultural tourism. The Circonauta Association is also committed to education (through the Circus Approach Workshops for children under 12), and to artistic training through the organisation of specialised workshops in the contemporary circus sector.
