A little shrine to beautiful paper. Edicola 518 is a space dedicated to the sale, discovery, development, and celebration of independent Italian and international publishing. The selection includes independent magazines—primarily international, but also outstanding examples of Italian publishing—artists’ books, fanzines, self-published works, and art books.

In addition to sales, Edicola 518 promotes awareness and the dissemination of these publications, fostering their circulation and development. During the warmer months, the space opens up to the city through gatherings and initiatives in public spaces, where books become an opportunity for discussion and deeper exploration of topics of common interest.

Edicola 518 is not an art project, but a newsstand in every sense of the word: it operates formally under a newsstand license and is housed in a kiosk that has served as a newsstand since the early 20th century. Its offerings also reflect this nature: printed materials, primarily periodicals, form the core of its business.

The project thus arises from the intersection of contemporary culture and traditional commerce, through a creative approach rooted in ambiguity and paradox. A newsstand that offers an original interpretation of a historic commercial function, transforming it into a place for the discovery, circulation, and promotion of independent publishing culture.
