Luciano Fagnola, bookbinder
Luciano Fagnola, a bookbinding craftsman, has been working in the field of bookbinding for over 40 years. He began by studying at the Colle Don Bosco School of Graphics in the province of Asti, started as a bookbinder and gradually broadened his outlook and his activity, moving from bookbinding to papermaking, trying his hand at restoring paper and antique books at the Certosa in Florence, then perfecting his skills at the Centro del Bel Libro in Ascona. In the course of his career he has worked with many important artists, such as Ugo Nespolo, Francesco Casorati, Giuseppe Uncini, Aldo Mondino; thanks to his constant contact with artists, he has developed a personal style that leads him to emphasise the content of the work also in the binding, to imagine the binding as part of the work through a poetic and expressive style. Every binding is inspired by the content of the book itself, he says, but the final realisation is also influenced by the freedom the client gives me to make a design.
