Made in Cloister
It is a contemporary art, craft and design project, created in 2012 to accompany the regeneration of the Renaissance cloister of Santa Caterina a Formiello. It is a rare example of Neapolitan Renaissance and industrial archaeology, which was in a state of total abandonment. The history of the place and its location defined the reconversion project: to recover a part of the cultural heritage of the City of Naples in order to allocate it to the revival of craft traditions, renewing them with a contemporary spirit through the realisation of projects with international artists and designers. The Made in Cloister project is based on three pillars: recovery of the artistic heritage for a development consistent with the vocation of the area; revitalisation of the ‘making of handicrafts’ through interaction between master craftsmen and international artists and designers; urban regeneration and the social impact of a cultural project.
