The Teatro degli Ulivi
Nestled in the rural landscape of the Abruzzo hinterland, the Teatro degli Ulivi is a cultural project that weaves together the performing arts, the landscape, and the community, with the goal of bringing theater to an area far from the main cultural circuits. Born from the desire to create a permanent space dedicated to live performance, it now serves as a meeting place where the artistic dimension engages with the region’s agricultural and environmental identity.
Sponsored by the Fondazione Teatro degli Ulivi ETS, the project unfolds through a program that combines theatrical production, artist residencies, education, and community participation. The presence of an open-air stage nestled among olive trees makes the landscape an integral part of the cultural experience, transforming the relationship between the audience, nature, and the performance into a distinctive feature of the initiative.
Among the initiatives that bring the Teatro degli Ulivi to life, LiveOLive stands out—a summer festival dedicated to the performing arts that annually hosts performances, discussions, and opportunities for community engagement open to the local area. The festival represents one of the most significant expressions of the Foundation’s work, which interprets culture as a tool for regional regeneration, capable of strengthening the bond between people, places, and artistic practices.
Through a program that combines cultural quality, sustainability, and a focus on local contexts, the Teatro degli Ulivi helps create new opportunities for participation in inland areas, demonstrating how even the most remote regions can become hubs of cultural production, experimentation, and community engagement.
