The modern library of Camaldoli

A new style within ancient walls. A thousand-year-old monastery, where time seems to stand still. The Monastery of Camaldoli, nestling in the Tuscan forest, is an enchanted place that encapsulates all Italian culture and know-how. Here the Benedictine monks have lived in tranquillity for over a century and it is here that the Biblioteca Moderna, a design library that has become an expression of culture as a foundation, has now found its home. Suspended tables and bookcases with essential lines alternate in this underground space that the Menichetti+Caldarelli architectural studio has reinterpreted using furniture by Lago, an all-Italian brand of contemporary design. The result is a special innovative environment where sobriety and character coexist in absolute peace, in an essential simplicity that smacks of beauty. Visit the site
