The history of wood at the Riva Museum
The Museum of Wood was built with a precise intent: to collect the tools, instruments and machines tha, starting in the 1700s, have characterised the working of this extraordinary material: from craftsmanship to the first machines.
This painstaking work, strongly desired by the Riva family, is now housed on the first floor of the new company building, covered in larch wood slats; next to the historical collection is the new company showroom with the best of the latest collections. Around three thousand pieces now make up the exhibition, from Italy and around the world: they range from the traditional chisel to hand planes, from work tables to cleaners, from band saws and bow and skewers to industrial processing machines.
Since 2010, the Museum has added to the permanent exhibition of the collections, the use of the space to host exhibitions and artistic events, which have brought some of the most important and interesting artists and designers on the international scene to Cantù.
