The wall of Monticello d'Alba

Monticello 2
In April 2019, following the winning of the Fondazione CRC's call for bids for Destruction, the monumental complex by Piedmontese artist Valerio Berruti was inaugurated. A work of land art that, in order to transform a concrete retaining wall, "puts it in dialogue with nature and the community". The innovative call for proposals, launched in 2017 and 2018, has two intentions: to destroy the ugliness and restore the beauty of a landscape and environmental context; to enable communities to 'take charge' of the place, through participation, design and/or action processes. The work Frammenti (Fragments) is a monumental complex consisting of one hundred bas-reliefs in reinforced concrete and enamel, designed to cover the wall below the Monticello d'Alba Castle. One hundred bas-reliefs, depicting as many children, stand out on the wall to symbolise the fragmentation of the human being at the moment of childhood. Go to the site.
