Pandino and the gathering of the Pandas
The revenge of the common car. Pandino is a quiet little town (8888 inhabitants) in the lower Po valley near Cremona, but every year it comes alive for an irrepressible event. For its name alone, it hosts the world gathering of Panda enthusiasts every year. The destination was chosen on social media following a joking post saying: "Why not organise a Panda rally in Pandino?". The first Panda (the Pandino) is a cult object of poor design, born from the pencil of Giorgetto Giugiaro in 1980, the project captured the essential nature of the car. This is how the original old Panda entered the hearts of millions of fans: stark naked. Produced for 23 years in more than five million examples. This is how fans from all over Europe of this spartan vehicle gather every year in Pandino, under the imposing Visconti fortress: more than 5000 people and 695 cars in 2022. And as a side dish, carousels on the roads of the province, sumptuous lunches and music in the castles.
